Understanding Addiction
Addiction isn’t just a pattern—it’s something that reshapes the way you think, feel, and connect with the world.
Addiction affects your mind, body, heart and spirit.
Recovery isn’t just about quitting; it’s about reclaiming agency, identity, and your ability to move forward without shame.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. In therapy, you go beyond stopping a behavior— you rebuild trust in yourself and redefine what’s possible.
Note that I incorporate some 12-step wisdom into the therapy process, when clients are open to it.
Substance Addictions
Substance addiction is when you depend on substances to soothe, numb, or escape. To heal, you need to develop alternative ways to cope, along with self-compassion.
Food Addiction
Some foods do more than nourish; they comfort, distract, or even control you. For biochemical cravings and/or emotional ties to food, therapy helps you rebuild a sense of balance, connection, and trust in yourself.
Alcohol Addiction
Drinking is about the relief, escape, and/or habit you build around alcohol. Therapy provides the space to untangle its hold, navigate your relapses with self-compassion, and move toward freedom.
Cannabis Addiction
For some, cannabis—in weed or gummy form– gradually evolves into an emotional crutch. Therapy helps reclaim agency, address dependency, and reconnect with life outside of use.
Process Addictions
Not all addictions involve substances—some revolve around behaviors that become compulsive, shaping your emotions, self-worth, and daily life. Therapy helps interrupt the cycle, uncover the deeper roots, and restore balance.
Porn Addiction
When viewing porn becomes compulsive, it can negatively impact your intimate relationships and self-esteem. Therapy helps you untangle urges, redefine connections, and build confidence in healthier relationships.
Internet Addiction
The constant stimulation of online gambling and gaming can take over your daily life, making it hard to disconnect. Therapy offers strategies to reset boundaries, reclaim time, and build mindful habits.
Shopping Addiction
The rush of impulse spending can come with financial strain and emotional distress. Therapy helps you override triggers, reshape habits, and create a healthier relationship with money.
Therapy can help you make the change from entrapment to choice
